How Long Would You Last Disconnected?

How long could you go without your computer, Internet, email, cell phone, pda, etc?  Forbes managing editor, Dennis Neal, made it less than 2 days through his one week challenge.  Watch it below.

After watching this video I feel pretty good.  I could make it longer than 2 days… if I had to, maybe a week.  I wouldn’t choose to though.

Encryption could make you more vulnerable

Interesting read from Computerworld…

“Lot of organizations are new to encryption,” he added. “Their only exposure to it has been with SSL, but that’s just a session. When you shift to data at rest and encrypt your laptop, if you lose the key you trash your data – it’s a self-inflicted denial-of-service attack.

Encryption is also as big an interest for the bad guys as the good guys, warned Anton Grashion, European security strategist for Juniper. “As soon as you let the cat out of the bag, they’ll be using it too,” he said. “For example, it looks like a great opportunity to start attacking key infrastructures.”

“It’s a new class of DoS attack,” agreed Moulds. “If you can go in and revoke a key and then demand a ransom, it’s a fantastic way of attacking a business.”

Knight Rider is Back!

KITT

One week from today, February 17th KITT is back, bigger and better than ever.  Knight Rider is returning to the tube as a 2 hour made for TV movie.  Set your DVR now so you don’t miss the reincarnation.  9/8c on NBC!

Knight Rider was one of my favorite shows as a kid.  My dad took me to a car show once when I was in elementary school and I got to have my picture made sitting inside KITT.  Awesome memory!

As the original story resumes, the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) is absolutely the coolest car ever created: its supercomputer capable of hacking almost any system; its weapons systems efficient; and its body — thanks to its creator’s work and nanotechnology — is capable of actually shifting shape and color. Plus, its artificial intelligence makes it the ideal good cop partner: logical, precise and possessing infinite knowledge. It is the ultimate car — and someone will be willing to do anything to obtain it.

Wow! Microsoft Makes $44.6 Billion Bid for Yahoo

microsoft-yahoo.jpgThis would be huge!   Yahoo has been struggling for a couple years now and Microsoft’s web offerings have been declining for several months.  I don’t really see this strengthening Microsoft, though.  In my view, this is Microsoft buying traffic.  They don’t need Yahoo’s portal, email, or messenger. Microsoft already has all that.  So mostly, Microsoft would just be purchasing web property to put their advertisements on as they try to catch up with Google Adsense.

Dell to reveal Android-based mobile handset?

logo_android.gifSo far it’s still just a rumor and neither Dell or Google will comment.  Android, obviously, is Google’s recently announced mobile phone/pda operating system.  If Dell were to release a device shortly they’d be the first to market with an Android based product.

I love Google’s mobile products so far.  Google Maps Mobile is awesome as is Mobile Gmail and neither of those are as good as Google’s Mail app for Blackberry devices.  Needless to say, I’m very interested to see what they can do with their apps on their own mobile OS.

Sounds like we might not have to wait much longer to find out.  Stay tuned.
